Are you tired of your boring concrete patio? There are beautiful ways to create decorative concrete patios to make
your outdoor area inviting and fun. You can paint them, install decorative concrete, or use stamped designs. You
should research the different options you have for decorative concrete patios. It takes time to create a beautiful
patio space, but the results will be worth it.
Upgrading a cold, uninviting patio space to decorative concrete patios can add to the value of a home. It is
considered an investment to make the backyard living space a sanctuary of beauty and peace. Imagine inviting
friends and neighbors over to a patio of which you can be proud. Decorative concrete patios can make this
happen.
There are varieties of colors to choose from when thinking of decorative concrete patios, so if you decide to paint
your concrete patio, there are steps you must follow. You must clean the concrete thoroughly, taking care to remove
grease and dirt so the paint will adhere correctly.
After drying, sand the floor to even out and prepare the floor, then vacuum. Be sure to fill in all cracks and
holes. Apply two coats of primer, two coats of epoxy, and several coats of masonry sealer. Let the floor dry
between each coat.
For decorative concrete patios, you can install decorative concrete to the existing concrete slab. First, you must
pour a thin layer of fine concrete over the existing concrete. You must first clean the surface and allow it to
dry.
Apply two polymer coats to prime the concrete area. After each coat is dried, mix the polymer with your chosen
color of paint until it is the consistency of pancake batter. Two coats of this, dried between each, are required.
Two coats of masonry sealer are applied. After drying, three to four coats of a wax coating will give your patio a
glossy, beautiful finish.
To install stamped designs over existing concrete for decorative concrete patios, you must pour clean it and fill
in any cracks in your existing concrete. Add a color surface hardener to add pressure and water resistance and
color. It gives concrete the consistency to allow stamping mats.
A color surface hardener is in powder form and is sprinkled on and pressed into the concrete. A releasing agent is
added next to allow the removal of the stamping mats. The stamps themselves are left in the concrete 10
minutes.
Either way you decide to upgrade your patio, you must take the safety precautions of wearing rubber gloves and a
facemask when installing decorative concrete patios. When you mix concrete, it emits a fine powder when mixed with
water. It is inadvisable to breathe it into your lungs. Epoxies and polymers should not be gotten on the
skin.
